Summer’s Sweet Spot: Blueberries, Beets, and Bounty at the Market!

There’s a certain kind of magic in the air right now at the Pendleton County Farmers Market. Maybe it’s the sunshine that stretches a little longer each evening, or the way kids come back sticky-fingered after playing outside—but whatever it is, we’ve officially entered the height of summer, and it shows.
Blueberry season is in full swing, and whether you’re tossing them into pancakes, blending them into smoothies, or just eating them by the handful, now’s the time to grab a pint (or three). Local farmers have worked hard to bring you some of the juiciest, sweetest berries of the year. They won’t last forever—so don't wait!

And it’s not just blueberries. The veggies are coming in hot—literally. Tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers, peppers, and more are piling high at vendors' table. Now is the time for quick sautés, fresh salads, grilled kabobs, along with a burger or thick juicy steak, chicken, or pork chop from our farmers.
Curious about beets? You’re not alone! They’re one of the most beautiful veggies at the market, but they can be intimidating if you’ve never cooked with them. Curious on that odd-looking vegetable on the table? Keep an open mind and ask the farmers! They are always happy to share their favorite recipe and why or how they grow their abundance.
And of course, there’s always something sweet. Each week, our baked goods table is loaded with fresh treats—soft sandwich loaves, crusty sourdough, cake slices, cookies, and more. Whether you’re craving a quick bite or stocking up your pantry, there’s something for everyone, and plenty of it.

And after all that berry-picking, beet-prepping, and summertime sun? Don’t forget to stop by Bubbly Bee Soap for a bar of felted soap—a perfect way to wash off sticky fingers and cool down after a long day. It’s part scrubber, part soap, and 100% handmade.

The market is more than just a place to shop—it’s a place to connect, to taste, to try new things, and to celebrate the season together. Come walk the booths, meet the growers, and see what fresh surprises await this week.
🥄 Simple Roasted Beets (Inspired by JoyFoodSunshine)

New to beets? This easy roasted beet recipe is a great place to start. Just scrub, trim, and wrap whole beets in foil. Roast at 400°F for 45–60 minutes until fork-tender. Once cooled, the skins slip right off! Slice and enjoy with a little olive oil, salt, and pepper—or add balsamic, goat cheese, or fresh herbs for extra flavor.
